Richard Roulstone was born at Netherseal, Leicestershire but moved to the village of Strelley in Nottinghamshire where he worked as a gardener for the Edge family at Strelley Hall. He married Mary Wells in Strelley and they brought up their six surviving children in the village. Sadly their second child, Mary, was buried less than three weeks after her baptism.
By 1851 the family had moved to 7 Court Yard, off Cow Lane, Bramcote where Richard continued to work as a gardener. Richard and Mary both died of 'old age' and are buried at St Michael and All Angels in Bramcote along with their daughter, Jane, and son, Thomas.
Richard didn't leave a will so administration was granted to his widow, Mary, to dispose of his effects amounting to under £600.
