Edgar enlisted in the army 24th January 1917. Pte 317048 was mobilised on 30th April 1917 and arrived in Rouen, France 30th June. He had worked as a driver before the war and served with the tank corps. He was demobbed 25th November 1919.
When he came home he got a driving job with Clarke's bakery at Westbury-on-Trim. He married Elsie in 1923 and when they got their own home in 1926 they set up Park Dairy which eventually had five vans delivering milk to the surrounding areas in Westbury and Henbury. Edgar's heart was in farming so he sold the dairy business and rented Hill Farm, Tickenham from one of his Weaver cousins. After being hard hit by the depression they moved first to Yate, then Horfield where he became a fruiterer before returning to the milk delivery business. In 1941 he set up on his own and had a successful milk round in Westbury and Henbury for the next 34 years.
As well as the three children from his marriage, Edgar had an illegitimate son whose surname is believed to be White. We understand Mr White may have been born around 1926/1927 and lived in Sea Mills, Bristol. He may have died soon after Edgar in the late 1970s. Mr White did make contact shortly after Edgar died but, at the time, the family were concerned that this may upset his wife. Now the family wish they had more details and would be very happy if his descendants wanted to make contact.
